Help Topics / Using SOCS Sport
In-House Sport

This section outlines how you can use SOCS sport to organise and manage internal school sport fixtures and competitions, such as house matches and tournaments.  Keep parents and pupils informed about the sport taking place within school and monitor participation and track internal school sport.  This provides a great tool to help with end of term and year reports.

Please follow the instructions below to set up In-House Sport.

Log into SOCS sport and select the “In-House Sport” menu item.

The first step is to set up your sports and teams.

Setting up Sports & Teams

1. Select the “Add a Sport & Team” tab

2. Enter the required information for the In-house Team and click “Save”.  You can create any internal team (e.g. for a form, house, staff or any other adhoc group).  If the team is a house team you can select the house form the dropdown list proivided. The “Team Name” will be automatically populated if you have selected a house from the dropdown list. However you do not need to select a house to use this feature.  You are still able to edit the name if needed.

Once you have added a team and sport, it will be added to the list of your In-House Sport for the current season. Click on “Teams & Competitions” next to a sport to see a full list of teams you have set up. You can edit the team details by clicking the pencil icon.

Setting up Competitions

In-House Sport is competition based so adding a competition is required before you can add fixtures. If you only want to add "friendlies" then you still need to set up a competition for these fixtures, even if there is no winner or group/league rankings.

1. Select “Add a Competition” on the team page.

2. Give your competition a title, description (optional), set the status and you can also publish the competition if ready to do so.

Note: Only published competitions will appear on your sports website.  Even if the fixtures are published, you will still need to publish the competition for the fixtures to appear on your sport site.

The next step is to add groups/leagues/knockouts to your competition.

Adding Groups, Leagues and Knockouts

1. Select the “Builder” tab next to the competition you have added.

2. Select from 1 of 3 options below to add a group, league or knockout:

3. Enter the group title and check the box if you would like to include the group ranking on your sports website (if this group is for friendly fixtures then you may not want the group ranking to appear).

You can then select the teams for the group.

Note: you can add teams to more than 1 group. For example, Boyle Seniors could be added to “Group 1” and “Group 2”. This is useful if your competition has phase 2 groups.

Adding fixtures to a group/league/knockout

  1. Select the “Fixtures” tab next to the group.
  2. To add a single fixture click “Add a Fixture”, enter the required information and click save. The fixture will then appear on the page below.
  3. To add all of the fixtures to a group or league where all teams play each other, you can click the "Add All Fixtures" button.  You will then see the multi-fixture editor with all of the group fixtures listed.  You can then enter the required information (Match Date and Start Time are required) and click saveFixtures are only added if the "Add Fixture" checkbox in the left hand column is checked for that fixture.  Fixtures are not added to the system until the save button is clicked.
  4. Once the fixtures have been added you will see them listed along with buttons to edit the fixture details, add a team sheet, add results and also delete the fixture.

The group ranking table will populate after results have been added.

If a team has fixtures added, you cannot remove them from the group. You will need to delete the fixtures first.

To do this, click the trash icon next to each fixture. Once you have deleted the fixtures, you can edit the group and untick the team for that group, removing them fro the group. If a team has no fixtures you will also see a trash icon to delete the team in the team list.

Adding Team Sheets

Once you have added a fixture, you can add the team sheets.

You can either add the previously selected team, or you can create new team sheet by clicking “Edit Team Sheet”.

When selecting a team you can filter pupils by house, year group, form or search for a pupil by surname. Click “Select” to add the pupil to the team sheet. They will then appear on the right hand side under “Selected Pupils”. You can drag and drop the pupils to re-arrange the team sheet.

Once you have finished editing the team sheet, click “Close” and ensure that you click the "Save" button at the bottom to save your changes. Once selected you will see any possible event clashes for the pupils selected.

Adding Results

To add a result for a fixture, click the “Result” tab on the Fixture List page, enter the scores and click “Save”.

Group ranking points are added in the result editor depending on your group scoring system.  The group ranking table will populate after results have been added.
