SOCS Sport Big Screen

Designed for large screen displays in sports halls, corridors and reception areas, the Big Screen includes features such as the upcoming sports programme, today’s teams and latest results and news.

Big Screen will show the upcoming sports programme for the current week on the left hand side, and published team sheets scrolling on the right hand side. The information displayed on Big Screen is updated directly from your SOCS control panel. Big Screen auto updates every 10 minutes, so any changes you make via your SOCS control panel will be visible on the Big Screen automatically within 10 minutes.

Below is an example of what the Big Screen would look like when on display:

Big Screen is designed to be viewed on an internet browser (connected to the internet) in full screen mode (Internet Explorer 9 or above) on a TV or monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. A typical setup would be connecting the screen to a PC/laptop using an HDMI cable.

Ensure the web browser on the device you intend to use, particularly built in web browsers on Smart TVs, support a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels in full screen mode

When reviewing Big Screen on a PC or laptop with a lower screen resolution than 1920 x 1080, Big Screen will overflow off the edges. In order to see all the content you must scroll around. Also, ensure to turn off all browser menus and the status bar.

Displaying the Big Screen

To display the Big Screen on screens around the school follow these steps:

  1. Select “View” on the Sport Big Screen Editor screen alongside the Big Screen you wish to display.
  2. Copy the Big Screen URL into the web browser linked to the screen you wish to use.

The screen will display published team sheets from today for the next seven days by default. When reviewing and for best effect, ensure there are team sheets and fixtures during the next seven day period. Alternatively, when reviewing, you can append to the URL any date, in the future, or past, where you know there are fixtures and team sheets, in the format shown here: &Date=15Oct19.

Information during the week for days in the past are not included – therefore on a Tuesday, the Monday information will drop off etc. This reduces the number of pages as a week progresses.

Big Screen Editor

Main users of SOCS Sport can edit the details on the sport Big Screen by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to SOCS Sport
  2. Click ‘School Settings’
  3. ‘Sport Big Screen Editor’

The Standard Big Screen

This is the default (current) Big Screen view which includes all age levels and genders. If you have purchased the Big Screen module this will be displayed here. To access the Big Screen link, click the “View” button. This will open a new tab in your browser and the URL for your big screen will be displayed in the search bar.

Uploading/Editing the background image

You can also update the standard Big Screen background image from the Sport Big Screen Editor screen.  Follow these steps:

  1. Click the “Edit background” button.
  2. Click “+Add more files” to upload an image from your computer (see the screenshot below)
  3. Click the “Upload” button in the right-hand corner. This will upload the new image to the Big Screen background automatically.

Note – the background photos are resized down to fit 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels wide, therefore if a portrait image is uploaded there is a good chance it will cut off a section of the image. Therefore, we advise using landscape images which are at least 1920 pixels wide.

Once an existing background has been updated you may need to refresh the Big Screen to see the change as the previous version may be cached.

Creating custom Big Screen views

Schools can create custom Big Screen views, which allow you to create individual Big Screen views that can be filtered by gender or age. Follow these steps:

  1. From the Sport Big Screen Editor screen, click the button:

  1. You can then customize three parts of the Big Screen:
  • The Big Screen Title – this appears at the top of the page e.g. “Girls Senior School Sports”
  • Age Levels to be included on the custom Big Screen
  • The gender (M, F, or all) to be included on the custom Big Screen.

    3. Click “Save” to create the custom Big Screen view or “Cancel” to remove.

The new custom Big Screen view will then be visible on the main Big Screen Editor page. The details can be edited at any time by clicking the “Edit Details” button and amending the settings. A custom view can be deleted at any time by clicking the trash can icon to the left of it on the main editor page.

Note – for any new custom views created the background image will default to the same background used in the standard (default) view. To edit a custom view background, follow the steps mentioned in the ‘Uploading/Editing the background image’ section above by clicking “Edit background”.
